SAIL AWAY
Words: Jon Macey
Music: Jon Macey/Joe Viglione
on an endless journey back and forth
drifting from the darkness to the source
my destiny has taken me this course
i want to sail away
nothing left to say
like two birds on the waves
i do not fear the figures in my dreams
lightened, dancing, breaking through the beams
they're leading me to find out what this means
i want to sail away
nothing left to say
like two birds on the waves
*middle 8*
in my washed out diamond eyes
shines the struggle that we bear
i have to face these feelings when
i look around
look around here
i want to sail away
nothing left to say
like two birds on the waves_____________________________

Joe Viglione Lyrics:
Cresting on the wave as it descends /
searching for the last of my true friends
in a circle full of twists and bends
I'd love to sail away
somewhere inside today
where angels find their play
this moment just might be the deja vu
something old disguised as something new
and feelings find translation with that cue
It's time I sail away
the angels want to play
as winter yearns for May
*middle 8*
in the time out that is called/it's like the earth stood still
i have to chase these feelings, feelings look around, they look around they say
it's time to sail away
angels on the waves
two birds unafraid
Joe Viglione lyrics 1:28 AM 1/28/05
This particular song fell out of Jon Macey's guitar when Platinum Sound gave me a free night of recording to introduce us to their studio. "Nothing Like A Hit" was on my mind for a good couple of years and with the recording time I was forced to finish it. If I recall Jon Macey had the riff to "Sail Away" in his "unfinished repertoire" and put the song together in much the same way as I completed "There's Nothing Like A Hit": on the spot. I remember writing the middle 8, which you can hear in other songs of mine, that John Lennon approach of working your favorite riffs into other songs (though to be accurate, Lennon would re-cycle certain lyrics; but the sentiment is the same).
The interesting thing is that in 1973 Jack Daniel was my songwriting partner and he had a song called "Sail Away", totally different. Our band was called STILL, which he named as a tribute of sorts to Stephen Stills, but also as a chance to pause and consider what the word STILL means, in all of its aspects. We were definitely ahead of our time.
Interesting that various collaborations over the past three decades have been artistically very successful, and more interesting that Macey, myself, Jack Daniel and other co-writers haven't worked on more tunes together - or even in new combinations - as we all have similar sensibilities and as this "Sail Away" proves, combinations can be potent.
Mr. Curt of Pastiche is playing the keyboards; Sal Baglio of The Stompers on acoustic guitar and backing vocals. Mr. Curt named this band THE ACCIDENTALLY WONDERFUL. Recorded around 1991, there were three songs in the session. "It Starts Again" may be released on the soundtrack to THE SALT WATER SUMMERS.
